In a televised address, Prime Minister Diab said the explosion of explosive materials stored at a port in the capital over the past seven years was “a consequence of corruption”.

“Today we are following the people’s will with a request to track down those responsible for this catastrophe, who have been in hiding for seven years. And we meet the aspiration of real change. of the people … I announce today the entire government resigns, “Mr. Diab said.

The announcement came after a cabinet meeting on the same day, in which, according to Lebanon Health Minister Hamad Hassan, the entire government cabinet resigned.

Under Lebanese law, the government is forced to dissolve and form a new cabinet when at least 7 out of 20 ministers resign.

Mr. Diab’s cabinet will still run the government until the new one is formed.
