The explosion at the Beirut port, Lebannon on August 4, left more than 4,000 casualties, not the deadliest accident in history caused by ammonium nitrate.
The explosion in the port of Beirut blew half of the buildings in the capital of Lebanon. Ammonium nitrate weighing up to 2,750 tons in storage for six years without proper precautions was the cause of the disaster.
Ammonium nitrate, when exposed to fire or preparation, can be detonated. In larger numbers, the more terrible the explosion, which could lead to a major catastrophe with many casualties.
Before the Beruit disaster, there were many explosions involving ammonium nitrate around the world and the number of people the damage was terrible.
Tianjin, China 2015
Two large explosions occurred in industrial warehouses in the port city of Tianjin, followed by a fire on August 12, 2015. 110 ambulance workers and 55 civilians were killed, more than 790 were injured and eight bodies were not found.
