5 Mysterious Books about Magic, Curses and Charms of Antiquity

In ancient times, the use of magic, spells, and prayers was developed throughout the cultures of the world. We were even recorded in magic books handed down through the generations. Here are five manuscripts to help us better understand the ancient magical world.

1. The Book of the Shaman Abramelin, The Esoteric Magic of Kabbalistic Knowledge

The book of the Shaman Abramelin is written in the form of a novel or autobiography by a man known as Abraham. Abraham was a German-Jewish who lived between the 14th and 15th centuries. Abramelin’s book is about the transmission of Abraham’s magical knowledge and Kabbalistic knowledge to his son, Lamech, and the story of how he possessed such knowledge.

In Egypt Abraham met the Mage Abramelin, Abramelin is said to have later taught Abraham Kabbalistic magic and gave him two manuscripts to copy. Featured in Esoteric Magic is an elaborate ritual known as the “Feast of Abramelin”, which is said to allow the magician to gain knowledge and converse with his “Guardian Angel”, as well as the Devil. The manuscript was later used in secret societies such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden and Aleister Crowley’s mystical system of Thelema.

2. Ars Notoria — Ancient spell book for perfect memory and wisdom

Ars Notoria is a book that allows the user to become adept in a certain field of study, giving them eloquence, a perfect memory, and wisdom, including lessons on creating mystical objects such as amulets and lucky charms.

This book dates back to the 13th century. Some parts were written as early as the 12th century. It is one of five books in a series of magical books called “Lesser Keys of Solomon” , author unknown.

The original books were written in three different forms, including Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. The content of the book contains lessons on creating mystical objects such as amulets and lucky charms.
